The Upper Milky Way

Image Details:

While the lower Milky Way towards the Earth’s equator is a more popular target, dark skies and fast optics can reveal interesting detail in almost every region of sky. This is a section of the Milky Way seen high to the North which covers the constellations Cassiopeia, Perseus, and a large portion of Pegasus. The Andromeda Galaxy as well as the Triangulum Galaxy are also visible on the right half of the photo. Some emission regions are also visible in the column of the Milky Way including the Heart and Soul pair near the center, NGC 7822 near the top, and several Sharpless catalog objects near the bottom which are all visible as red/pink areas.
